The Canadian Thanksgiving
Share
Thanksgiving in Canada is a time for cozy gatherings, bountiful feasts, and reflecting on all that we're grateful for. While it shares some similarities with its American counterpart, Canadian Thanksgiving has its own unique flavor and history.
When Do Canadians Give Thanks?
Unlike our neighbors to the south, Canadian Thanksgiving always falls on the second Monday in October. For 2025, mark your calendars for Monday, October 13th. This earlier date often means we get to enjoy the vibrant autumn foliage and crisp, refreshing air, making it a perfect time for family road trips to enjoy the fall colours before the colder weather truly sets in.
A Feast for All Senses: The Traditional Spread
The centerpiece of any Canadian Thanksgiving is undoubtedly the food! Expect a table laden with comforting, seasonal dishes that warm the soul.
-
The Main Event: A perfectly roasted turkey is almost always the star of the show. Often stuffed with a savory bread-based stuffing, it's carved with ceremony and shared amongst loved ones.

-
Delicious Sides: No turkey is complete without its supporting cast! You'll often find creamy mashed potatoes swimming in rich gravy, vibrant cranberry sauce (homemade or from a can – no judgment!), and a medley of roasted root vegetables like carrots, parsnips, and of course, various preparations of squash.
-
Sweet Endings: Dessert is a highlight! Pumpkin pie is a quintessential favourite, often served with a dollop of whipped cream. Other popular choices include apple pie, pecan pie, or even a festive fruit crumble.
